The Skin Knows What It Recognizes
There's something quietly radical about going back to basics.
In a world of 47-ingredient serums and lab-engineered moisturizers, choosing tallow — rendered animal fat, the same stuff our great-grandmothers used to soften their hands after a long day's work — feels almost countercultural. But here at Nan's Homestead, we think it's just common sense.
Tallow is remarkably similar in composition to the oils our skin naturally produces. It's rich in fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, and its fatty acid profile mirrors our own sebum so closely that skin simply absorbs it — no fighting, no clogging, no mystery. When you put something on your skin that it already understands, the results speak for themselves.
Modern skincare often works by stripping and replacing. Traditional skincare worked by nourishing. There's a difference, and your skin can feel it.

What We Lost — and Why It Matters Now
Somewhere in the mid-20th century, we were convinced that newer meant better. Petroleum-based creams, synthetic fragrances, and preservative-heavy lotions replaced the simple, effective remedies that had served families for generations. We traded wisdom for convenience, and many of us are still paying for it in the form of sensitive, reactive, or chronically dry skin.
The good news? That knowledge never disappeared. It was just waiting.
It Started With Family
For us, this isn't just a business philosophy — it's personal. The traditions behind Nan's Homestead are rooted in the way things were done in our own family: carefully, intentionally, and with deep respect for what the land provides. When we render tallow and blend it by hand in small batches, we're not just making skincare. We're continuing a conversation that started long before us.
That's why our Heritage Collection is named the way it is. Every scent family — Home & Hearth, Garden & Bloom, From the Garden Table, Lake Days & Open Air — is a doorway back to something familiar. A memory. A place. A person who taught you something without even knowing it.
Tradition Isn't Nostalgia — It's Discernment
Choosing traditional skincare today isn't about rejecting the modern world. It's about being discerning enough to ask: does this actually work, and do I know what's in it? Tallow answers both questions honestly.
We believe the best things are often the oldest things — tested not in a lab, but across generations of real people with real skin, living real lives.
Welcome to Nan's Homestead. We're glad you found your way back.
